Understanding this document

In this document

This is a simple light brown (kraft) cardboard cover, without illustration or printing. It bears two identical handwritten mentions of the date "3-04-64" and "3-4-64", as well as the title: "Séance REA concernant le moteur 2 temps" p. 1.

At the bottom right is a handwritten initial or signature, unfortunately illegible p. 1. No other content appears on this page: it is a simple folder intended to gather working documents, and not a report as such.

Context

The acronym "REA" is not explained in the document; it could designate a meeting or an internal department at Citroën, but this hypothesis stems from external context and is not confirmed by the piece itself.

In the 1960s, Citroën conducted several studies on alternative engines, including research into two-stroke powertrains, in parallel with better-known work on the rotary engine or the classic petrol engines equipping the DS. Paul Magès, primarily associated with the hydropneumatic suspension, also participated, within the design office, in broader reflections on the group's mechanics.

Archivist's perspective

This folder does not in itself provide any technical information on the 2-stroke engine mentioned: it serves only to identify and date a working file, probably intended to contain reports, notes or calculations now kept separately.

The date of 3 April 1964 places it a few days apart from other pieces in the same collection concerning auxiliary engines, such as the Meeting report "P1 operation" of Friday 1 April 1964 or the Handwritten calculations on P1 1800/1975 cm³ and 220 SF 6-cylinder engines. It is possible that this folder was designed to group documents related to these same works, but nothing in the digitised page allows this to be stated with certainty.

Its interest is therefore primarily documentary and archival: it attests to the existence, on this precise date, of a working session on an alternative engine research subject at Citroën, in Paul Magès' professional circle.
