Understanding this document

In this document

These handwritten notes dated "26/11/58" report on a conference dedicated to "DS ID Quality Points" p. 274. Three participant names appear in the header, the reading of which remains uncertain, as well as that of "Magès" p. 274.

High-pressure pump

The most developed point concerns the HP Pump: listed under a brace are "Liner seals", the "Central key" and "Expansion grooves", connected by an arrow to a mention of "Bearing manufacturing improvement → dim[ension] ch[an]ge" and "reduction of piston-liner clearances" p. 274.

Blocks and boring

The term "Blocks" is associated, via an arrow, with an interrogative handwritten box: "Increase? Body boring!" p. 274, suggesting a dimensional modification path still under debate.

Other points mentioned

The list continues with, each introduced by a dash: "Fluid" (underlined in red), "Filtration", "Sealing. brake accum. Sauzède study", a group under a brace "Adjustment / Gear and clutch control / Idle", then "LP Pump" and finally "ID HP Pump" with the mention "Sealing H bad. H. Sauzède" p. 274.

The number "58" is written in red in the top right corner of the page p. 274.

Context

At the end of the 1950s, the DS (launched in 1955) and its simplified version the ID 19 (1957) equipped their hydropneumatic suspension with sensitive components — high and low-pressure pumps, accumulators, seals — whose industrial reliability remained a major challenge for Citroën after the launch.

The name "Sauzède", cited twice on the page, likely refers to a design office collaborator associated with sealing monitoring, without the document saying more.

Archivist's perspective

This page, condensed into a single sheet, provides a concrete overview of the quality monitoring meetings that Paul Magès seems to have led or followed after the start of DS and ID production p. 274: each line condenses a real industrial problem — seal wear, mechanical clearances, accumulator sealing — rather than a theoretical reflection.

The box "Increase? Body boring!" clearly illustrates the working method using quick annotations and immediate technical hypotheses, typical of Magès' notebooks.

This document is part of a larger set in the same folder dedicated to the evolution of the hydropneumatic suspension; it can be compared to the Summary of folder 41-59, which references the major stages of these DS evolutions.
