Understanding this document

In this document

This is a red/orange cardboard folder, closed with an elastic band. It bears two white labels stuck on the bottom left: the first indicates the reference "49.66", the second the title "ORGANES HYDRAULIQUE" written in black felt-tip pen in capital letters, on two lines p. 1.

No date or other mention appears on this cover page.

Context

At Citroën, "hydraulic components" refer to the set of parts — pumps, valves, accumulators, pressure regulators — that constitute the heart of the hydropneumatic suspension system developed by Paul Magès, applied for the first time on the DS 19 presented in 1955.

The classification in numbered folders (here 49.66) suggests a methodical organisation of the engineer's archives, probably intended to group by theme the studies, technical notes, patents and correspondence related to these components.

Archivist's perspective

This cover does not constitute a technical document in itself: it serves as a container for a set of items relating to hydraulic components. It is therefore especially valuable as an archival reference, allowing several documents to be linked to the same work file.

The Summary of the "Hydraulic components" folder (Box no. 2) probably accompanies this cover and details its content. One can also relate this folder to the numerous technical items dated from the years 1949 to 1959 which seem to fall under it, such as the Schematic diagram of the DS 19 hydraulic circuit or the DS H.P. pump tests, which illustrate the thematic richness of this file.
