Understanding this document

In this document

This printed sheet bears the header "Société Anonyme ANDRÉ CITROËN" and the reference "B 354-7-33" p. 17.

The numbered grid

The main part of the page is occupied by a table with 5 columns and 20 rows, printing all two-digit numbers from 00 to 99, organised in increasing sequences by column: 00-19, 20-39, 40-59, 60-79, 80-99 p. 17.

The identification sections

At the bottom of the page are the printed fields "No", "Moteur" (Engine), "Châssis" (Chassis), "Caisse" (Body), and "Type", but none are filled in: they all remain blank p. 17.

Two circular perforations at the top of the sheet suggest storage in a binder or register p. 17.

No date, no name, and no test data appear on this document.

Context

As context external to the document: this type of printed form is reminiscent of the standardised forms in use at Citroën for the administrative tracking of vehicles or parts (engine, chassis, body, type numbers), a common practice in the French automotive industry of the 1930s. The printed reference "B 354-7-33" suggests an internal form numbering, comparable to other workshop documents in the same collection (for example, the "K 39-31" forms), although it is not possible to specify the context further here, due to a lack of information in the document itself.

Archivist's perspective

This sheet is distinguished from other items in the collection by its purely functional nature: it is not a technical sketch or a work note, but a blank administrative medium, probably intended for recording an identification or serial number p. 17.

Its documentary interest lies primarily in what it reveals indirectly about Paul Magès's working environment at Citroën — standardised forms, reused for other creative purposes elsewhere in the collection, as shown by the "Tooling sheet for the part" forms (B. No. 103) repurposed as sketch supports or the K 39-31 forms "Status of Standard Components Retouched during Assembly".

It does not seem possible, as it stands, to associate this specific sheet with a particular study or invention: it remains above all a witness to the standard paper tools of the Citroën company.
