Understanding this document

In this document

Page 26 is a simple divider sheet, containing only a single handwritten word: "Carburation", written in ink and underlined with a horizontal line, placed at the bottom right of the page p. 26.

No other text, diagram or annotation appears on this sheet.

Context

In engineers' archives, this type of handwritten divider is traditionally used to organise a binder or a file folder: it announces the content of the following pages, here devoted to carburation, that is to say, the air-fuel mixture necessary for the operation of a petrol engine.

At Citroën, in the 1970s, this theme was closely linked to the challenges of the time: emerging anti-pollution standards, the search for fuel economy, and the gradual transition from the classic carburettor to petrol injection systems (Bosch, Zenith...). This general context, well known in automotive history, is however not mentioned in the document itself.

Archivist's perspective

This sheet has no informative value in itself: it neither recounts nor explains anything. Its interest is purely functional and archival, as it reveals the filing method of Paul Magès — probably intended to group under this label a set of technical documents and press clippings dealing with carburation and injection.

It seems reasonable to link this divider to the same file as the handwritten cover page on carburation and injection (1974), as well as to the numerous technical clippings and translations on injection systems (Bosch K-Jetronic, Zenith-Stromberg carburettors) kept in the same collection, such as the clippings on Bosch K-Jetronic injection. These pieces confirm that Magès was closely following, during this period, the technological developments competing with or complementary to his own work on hydropneumatic suspension.
