Presentation and original captions

From 7 February 1949 to 12 March 1949, in order to test the hydropneumatic suspension, which was in its infancy, in "extreme cold", Paul MAGÈS set off for Swedish Lapland with his loyal mechanic Arthur Dumoulin, aboard a Traction equipped with this suspension. The photo of a 15 Six equipped with a hydropneumatic suspension on the rear axle (2nd photo from the left) was taken in the Alps in 1952. Later, in 1954, "high temperature" tests would follow in Algeria. (see on this subject in the "films" section: Tests in Algeria)

Understanding this document

Document presentation

From 7 February to 12 March 1949, Paul Magès set off for Swedish Lapland with his mechanic Arthur Dumoulin, aboard a Traction equipped with a hydropneumatic suspension, in order to test it in extreme cold.

The original presentation specifies that the second photograph, showing a 15 Six with hydropneumatic suspension on the rear axle, was taken in the Alps in 1952. It should therefore not be attributed to the 1949 Lapland campaign.

High-temperature tests in Algeria would follow in 1954; a film of this campaign is preserved in the collection.
