Presentation of the "Cahiers Experts de l'Hydraulique" — CIFC distance learning
Cover page and presentation of the CIFC educational kit: six workbooks, six quizzes including one super-quiz, and a storage box, for distance training on Citroën hydraulic systems.

Cover page
Page 1 presents the general title of the training: "LES CAHIERS EXPERTS DE L'HYDRAULIQUE" (The Hydraulic Expert Workbooks), subtitled "An intensive distance learning course from the CIFC" p. 1. It is illustrated with a photograph of curved metal tubes seen in cross-section, and bears the Citroën logo at the bottom of the page p. 1.
Presentation of the kit
Page 2 details the organization of the training:
- A storage box, intended to archive "the six workbooks and the duplicate of the quizzes" p. 2;
- Six quizzes, including a "super-quiz for revision", to be completed "after reading each workbook, and returned to us" p. 2;
- Six workbooks "to learn everything" plus one workbook "to review everything", "staggered over four months", covering "six themes in about fifteen pages" p. 2.
A photograph shows the box itself, featuring the same title and the Citroën logo p. 2.
Visible fragments of Workbook No. 2
On this same page appear, superimposed or through transparency, excerpts from another document: a questionnaire mentioning a braking circuit and hydraulic maintenance (oil change every "30,000 km" or "60,000 km", filter to be cleaned) p. 2, as well as an article titled "La source de pression" (The pressure source), mentioning Expert Workbook No. 2, which studies "the hydraulic reservoir, the high-pressure pump, the pressure regulator, the safety valve" and the role of the pressure regulator (thresholds "generally 145 and 170 bars") p. 2. A technical table associated with "THE HIGH-PRESSURE PUMP" distinguishes between 4 and 6-cylinder engines, with dimensions in millimeters p. 2.
| Engines | Value 1 | Value 2 | Engine ratio |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4-cylinder | 84 mm | 135.3 mm | [illegible] p. 2 |
| 6-cylinder | 120 mm | 88 mm | 1.4 [illegible] p. 2 |
Context
The CIFC (Citroën Information and Training Centre) likely offered technical training intended for network professionals (mechanics, dealers) in order to disseminate knowledge on the hydraulic systems specific to Citroën vehicles — DS, then CX, XM, notably for hydropneumatic suspension and power steering, technologies inherited from the work of Paul Magès. This type of distance learning material, with workbooks and quizzes, corresponds to the continuing education practices of the automotive industry in the 1980s-1990s.
Archivist's perspective
This document likely constitutes the cover and general presentation of a larger educational collection — the "Cahiers Experts de l'Hydraulique" — of which several issues (quizzes no. 1, 2, 5, 6) are preserved elsewhere in this collection.
It usefully complements the "Welcome..." booklet, which probably details the same training procedures, as well as the handwritten note listing the six Workbooks.
The presence, in the background of page 2, of fragments of Workbook No. 2 dedicated to the pressure source p. 2 suggests that this presentation page was scanned over or at the same time as already existing educational content, offering a concrete glimpse of the collection's editorial style: technical popularization, numbered diagrams, and analogies (here, the comparison with blood circulation). This material clearly illustrates Citroën's effort, in continuity with the legacy of Paul Magès, to transmit the basics of automotive hydraulics to the network.
